What is a meta tag?

A <meta> tag gives metadata referring to your page. You can find different meta tags that may be used to describe your page, namely a description, author, and keywords.

Meta tags are generally added to the <head>field of your HTML and which will not be visible on the page. These are usually used by browsers, search engines, and social media sites to help them understand your content and improve the look of your page when it is shared on their sites.

Do meta tags impact SEO?

The answer would be no because the quality of your content and its purpose to the search term is much more important.

Search engines now a day are exceptionally good in reading and understanding HTML, they themselves are eligible enough to remove the support of human-manipulated data namely meta tags. Search engines are far better in reading, understanding, and matching the content on your pages to a particular search term that is entered by the user, then they were a few years ago.

In spite of everything, meta tags still hold some impact on how your site is ranked, however more importantly they help in enhancing the display of your site in social media sites, web browsers, search engines, and everywhere else it may perhaps be shared or listed.

Common Meta Tags

Let’s begin with a set of, the most frequently asked; meta tags, description, and keywords.

Keywords

The keywords meta tag does not have any positive impact on your page rank. However, if you were looking to spam the keywords meta tag with titles you requested to be found for, in that case, you ‘might see a decrease (and a possibility of blacklisting) with the performance of your page.

There is an open statement by Google that they do not consider the keywords meta tag for ranking pages. My opinion would be not to add the keywords meta tag.

Do Meta Descriptions Impact SEO?

Maybe Meta description seems to be important. And of course, they are. But the question being, are they really helping you rank better in search results? The short answer could be no, but the long answer is… yes. Here’s the reason.

First, let’s talk about ‘no’ – meta descriptions; they are not a direct ‘ranking factor’. During the past, search engines were using meta descriptions and meta keywords in ranking their algorithms, but now that’s not the case. Obviously now, when writing a meta description which includes keywords will not help you rank better on its own. Nevertheless, writing good meta descriptions would definitely be a good digital marketing practice to follow, for a number of reasons –For which there is a direct impact on your SEO.

The description tag was also formerly believed in to provide information about the page which was used to match it to the search title entered. Furthermore, search engines no longer required to depend on your acting honest and describing your page correctly — they can actually read and understand the content page that you are on.

There are few kinds of research that tell when the description text is viewable on the page content, and matches to what the user searched for, then it will give you a slight positive impact on your ranking.

Google’s advice with regards to the description meta tag is, not have duplicate descriptions. It shows that the site has been poorly designed and therefore It’s just throwing up some automated pages of content in an effort to rank higher.

Check and confirm that every single page on your site has a meta description. Having an Identical or some similar descriptions on every page of a site is not going help you.

On the other side, a description is a sign of a well-made, professional website. This tells you that every page of yours should have an accurate source of information provided on it, so it’s been specifying that you should only add a unique description of that content.

Kindly take the advice of Google and make sure that each and every page of yours have high quality and unique descriptions.

Lastly, validate if your descriptions are genuinely descriptive. The finest descriptions will be visible in Google’s search results and will go a long way to improve the quality and quantity of your search traffic.

In Digital Marketing, SEO is an unfinished chunk. It may sometimes pain to hear the truth but, one could never be “complete” optimizing his website. Every time you hear about New data, keyword strategies, and updates are continuously rolling in and out, and for you to stay at the focus, you’ve got to be positive. Metadata, meta tags, and alt tags are obviously basic and small, but you don’t have to think too little about the powers they have. With the perfect SEO strategy, metadata, and meta tags, you’ll achieve your site at a first page ranking each and every time.
